2 Padel Courts construction - a start date!

Don't all faint at once! We are delighted to announce a start date of week commencing 27th November (2023!]

This project has suffered from many delays due to Covid, planning delays, building warrant delays and a massive cost increase which resulted in us having to have the whole project re-costed which resulted in a change of suppliers and a substantial saving in cost.

As this project was approved almost yesteryear there will be quite a few new members who will be unaware of this development. The Club is building 2 Padel Tennis courts in our car park. The two courts will be built alongside the indoor tennis courts and will stretch from the fence at the football pitches to the President's car park space. Sorry Shirley - that's gone! We will be retaining the current 72 car park spaces by re-designing the car park (we will also get rid of the current pothole nightmare!). This will mean a tighter car park but the same amount of spaces.

The plan is to start the foundation and drainage construction on week commencing 27 November and work til 22nd December when there will be a two week halt for Christmas and New Year. Construction will resume in early January and it is envisaged that completion will be by the end of March 2024. (Weather permitting!) As this is a construction site and there are many kids passing by, the site will be cordoned off and will take up more than half the car park. This will allow the construction company to keep storage facilities inside the site and make it more secure and safer. There will always be access through the car park from Mochrum Road to the playing fields, the two schools and Friarton Road. There also will always be continuous access to the Club and its facilities. The main problem for all of us will be car parking from December to March as space will be very limited due to the extended area of the construction site. Unfortunately we just have to live with it!

On completion the padel courts will be open to members and non members (a much reduced rate for members!) and we will circulate the membership with our proposals re pricing, hours, coaching, classes etc before they are implemented. We would also advise members that this project has been devised to not only increase the facilities for members but also to increase membership and availability of funds for future projects such as outdoor tennis court refurbishment, indoor tennis court refurbishment, changing rooms and certainly the upstairs ladies toilets! - to name but a few of the many projects we have on the list!

We look forward to this exciting development being completed and hope your patience is as good as ours! It's been a long trip!
