It is with great sadness that we write to inform you of the passing of Malcolm Watt on 1st July 2025
Malky was a huge part of the Newlands family: our most decorated Tennis Club Champion, winning the singles title on 15 occasions, a racketball Club Champion and a regular in the squash first team for many years. He was also part of the many Tennis Scottish cup victories in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s.
He was a phenomenal athlete and sportsman and won numerous Scottish Titles, Scottish and GB International caps and was a stalwart for the West of Scotland county team.
Malky was also head coach here at Newlands.
Malky was diagnosed with frontal lobe dementia at the age of 42 and fought in his usual; stubborn and tenacious way to the very end. We are all deeply saddened by his passing but will remember him fondly and with a smile. We honour him annually at out Malky Watt Racketlon event which will have extra poignancy this year.
Our thoughts go out to his parents Tommy and Pamela, his siblings Stuart & Shona and also to Leo
