It is with extreme sadness that we have to announce the death of Stuart Mccaffer at the age of 57 after a long and courageous battle bravely fought.
Stuart joined Newlands in 1991 from Poloc Tennis Club and immediately integrated himself into club life . His late father John McCaffer had played at Newlands so it was a special place for his family .He played for the gents tennis teams, in the squash mini leagues as well as being a regular social tennis player right up until illness prevented him from doing so .
He enjoyed the social aspect of the club and was a popular member both on and off the court.
Stuart was a huge supporter of Newlands and has always been a very generous benefactor over the years which enabled us to move forward with several projects. He kick started our funding for Padel tennis and was involved in the planning stages of this project. His contribution was much appreciated as well as his business acumen and knowledge.
Stuart always made it very clear how important the club was to him .He loved the ethos of our club and passionately believed in the values of a club run for the benefit of all the members and not for profit.
He was however primarily a family man and our thoughts are with Janice and their 3 sons who are also part of the Newlands family .He will be sorely missed.
