Newlands Junior Squash Update

Hi All,

It has been a very exciting time with various events happening in the junior squash section at Newlands. Below are some recent highlights and latest news:

New Sessions:

  • We are launching a new session aimed for p5-p7 ages as a continuation of the squash sessions which have been run this term in collaboration with active schools. This will now be a club session on Thursdays from 3.15 to 4.15 and will be free across the month of March to encourage those to give squash a go! Please reply to this email if you are interested or require further information!

  • The focus over the next couple of weeks is to build up the junior programme so I am encouraging parents over the next couple of days to reach out to me if they have any ideas or anything they would like to see. Again, you can reply to this email.

  • Last month, Newlands hosted the Scottish Squash Junior Nationals, with Ella Bannister winning the GU17 and 2nd in the GU19, Sophie Ballentyne winning GU11 and GU13, and Emily Ballentyne 3rd in the GU15. A huge congratulations to them as they have also been selected to represent Scotland in the upcoming internationals.

  • We have launched our adaptive abilities session which currently takes place on Mondays 5pm-6pm in collaboration with Scottish Disability Sport and Scottish Squash. Prior to this, we also introduced the opportunity of playing and learning squash to around 50 children with disabilities as part of various school programmes. This is the first time a programme of this kind has been done in Scotland and lots of learning has been taken to how we can further promote the sport.

  • Finally, there will be no junior squash this Saturday as we are hosting a West Squash Junior Event. But a reminder to try squash on future Saturdays – it’s a great sport!!

Many thanks,

Matt Bedwell
