Newlands Tennis Club Championships 2021

The Club Tennis Championships are an important event on the Newlands calendar and this year we want to make it bigger and better than ever.

Our Club Championships have come a long way since we had our first men’s singles winner in 1908 and our first women’s champion in 1923. We always see a very high level of participation and this year our expectations are huge (especially since we missed last year due to the Covid pandemic). Our last Club Championships in 2019 saw over 150 Senior and Junior entrants in 22 events.

This year we’ve decided to have a revamp . The club’s membership has grown over the last year and we’re determined to make this year’s club championships as inclusive as possible. For the Children 6 - 12 age groups we are running red, orange and green events as well as Singles and Doubles for boys and girls 12 - 18. For the Adults we’ve got Open Singles, Singles Plate and Doubles, as well as Doubles for the Over 50s and also Mixed Doubles.

More Events

We’ve added some new events this year to reflect our expanding membership and the variety of tennis ability . As well as having an Over 50 Singles event for men and women, we’re also introducing Plates to the competition in our Open singles, Over 50 singles and Open Doubles events. Our goal is to encourage as many people to enter the club championships as possible and to keep them playing beyond the first round! So if you enter an Open Singles event and lose your first match you could still find yourself deep in the tournament via the Plate event. There’s really no reason not to enter!

Trophies Wanted

We are offering 44 events this year . We want everyone to feel part of the day and reward our worthy winners and runners-up. So if you, or someone you know, would very generously like to donate a trophy we would love to hear from you. Your name could be engraved on the trophy and take pride of place in our trophy cabinet or you could join us on Finals Day on Saturday 3rd October and take part in the presentation ceremony. Please contact Reception on 0141 632 1742 or email reception@newlandsltc.co.uk.
