We are sad to announce the sudden death of one of our life members Keith MacLennan, while on holiday abroad. Keith and his family were very involved in tennis and at Newlands. Mr MacLennan senior was a coach and I remember 60 Juniors (including myself) in rows swinging our rackets!
The family business was in whisky and as Red Hackle they sponsored the West tournament held at Newlands for many years and top players including Sue Barker, Frew McMillan, Lew Hoad, Pat Cash, Rodger Taylor as well as David & John Lloyd all played here. The money the Club generated from these tournaments enabled the Club to build and expand the present Clubhouse.
Keith played at the Club in the 70s and was involved in the social scene. He was married to Fiona and they had 4 sons. Keith remained in the whisky trade until he retired. Although he no longer lived in Glasgow he always was interested and enquired how things were going at Newlands. There will be a memorial service held in Crail Church on Monday 21st February.
