As many of you will know, on 19th October 2020, Mike had a catastrophic brain haemorrhage whilst playing tennis. We were told he would not regain conciousness and sat by his side waiting for the worst but 6 months on he is still with us and still in the excellent care of the amazing NHS staff at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow (QEUH).
In February this year, following several operations on his brain and time in and out of ICU he was moved to an amazing rehabilition ward within the QEUH - PDRU (Physically Disabled Rehabilition Ward). The care he receives daily from the entire medical team is simply amazing and as a family we will be forever grateful and indebted to the staff. He is very slowly getting stronger and stronger and although we still have a long road to some form of recovery, without the team in PDRU, he would not be where he is today.
Within the rehab facility they have a garden area that they are wanting to re-landscape to make it more suitable for patients (mainly in wheelchairs) to enjoy.
To help raise money for this to happen, as a family we plan to walk from Newlands Tennis Club to the hospital on 16th May. We would so appreciate you sponsoring us to raise money for this great cause so that Mike and other patients like him can enjoy the space whilst going through a very difficult time in their lives.
