About John:

After 15 years working internationally in the museums sector, John returned to full time education in 2020 to retrain in Physiotherapy at Glasgow Caledonian University. As a keen tennis player, John has routinely experienced upper body issues and has long used sports massage as a method of pain and injury management. Combined with regular exercise, John has been able to improve technique, stability, and endurance.

As a Physiotherapy student, John has an in-depth understanding of anatomy and biomechanics. He is passionate about rehabilitation and uses a wide variety of techniques to aid in trauma recovery. He hopes to offer clients a supportive, accessible, and inclusive experience that will help to increase their mobility and activity goals.

What is Sports Massage?

Sports massage involves the manipulation of soft tissue (skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia) to benefit a person engaged in regular physical activity. Sports massage is designed to assist in correcting problems and imbalances in soft tissue that are caused from repetitive and strenuous physical activity and trauma. The application of sports massage, prior to and after exercise, can enhance performance, aid recovery, and prevent injury.

A sports massage is used for general relaxation of the muscular skeletal system as well as being directed towards any problem areas. Sports massage helps relieve muscular tension, break down adhesions, mobilise soft tissues and reduce pain.

What is the difference between Sports Massage and other massage treatments?

Instead of focusing on a full-body massage, a sports massage is focused on specific regions of the body in need of rehabilitation or comfort.

When can Sports Massage help?

Sports massage helps to reduce muscle spasm, flush out waste products and increase blood flow to an area. Increased blood flow delivers oxygen and nutrients to an area to assist the repair of any damaged tissues.

A sports massage helps the body recover from the stresses of exercise and facilitates the rebuilding phase of conditioning. A sports massage helps improve blood and lymph circulation, muscle relaxation and general relaxation and can aid the relief of soreness, stiffness, increased flexibility, and less chance for future injury.

What are the benefits of Sports Massage?

Sports massage can reduce muscle soreness, decrease pain, increase muscle flexibility, improve recovery, maximise performance and help to prevents injury.
