Club Update 11th March

Following the Scottish Government announcement on Tuesday, Tennis Scotland have updated their guidelines and so therefore outdoor doubles play can now resume from Friday 12th March! Also coaching and classes for over 12 years and adults can return. More details to follow.

The court opening times are now 8am until 10pm every day. Play is still restricted to one hour (box leagues are the exception with 1.5 hours play permitted). This is being monitored and we will review and amend as necessary.

The beer garden is being extended and new tables, turf, planting and a covered area for bbq, players and drinkers are all being added to enhance this already popular facility. All we need now is decent weather! This has involved a massive amount of hard work and time by our volunteers and so a huge thanks to Richard and his team of Spud Inglis, Ike Grant and Stuart Biggart .

The squash hall and bar renovations are well under way and should hopefully be completed in time for the Clubhouse reopening in late spring fingers crossed! We managed to sell off all 77 of our old seats in the squash hall (repurposing for home cinema seemed to be a popular choice)! Thanks to my daughter Jayne who organised and raised £770 for the Club.

Our sponsorship is going from strength to strength! We now are in partnership with The Glasgow Academy, Belhaven Brewery, Jones Whyte Law, Tankel Diamonds, Arnold Clark, Corum, Centurion Signs, RPJ Energy Solutions, Verum Wealth and DC Lighting.

Thanks to Gordon Kent for leading on this and being successful in this difficult climate.

Thanks to everyone who attended our AGM on zoom last week. It was a different experience for us all but the outcome was the same as a Clubhouse meeting although having everyone on mute meant it was the quickest on record - albeit you do miss the interaction with the attendees! 55 members logged in to the meeting on the night so thanks again.

Let’s hope these new loosening of restrictions continue and we can all get back to enjoying Newlands in full!

Kind regards,

Shirley
