It is with much sadness that we have to announce the death of a long standing member and former President of the Club, Mark Conroy. Our thoughts are with Pauline, Angus, Lorna and Alan at this difficult time.
Mark and his family joined Newlands over 30 years ago and the family immediately became involved in all aspects of the Club especially tennis. The children grew up playing tennis and squash and achieved a high club standard playing for the top teams. Mark himself was a keen tennis player and played for the third gents team.
Mark joined the management committee as Tennis Convenor and became President in 2007 and again in 2008. His contributions at this time and now are greatly appreciated. His expertise in IT and technical issues has been a tremendous benefit to the Club and no more so than when he helped Aileen and myself during the pandemic by organising our zoom calls online for the AGM and EGM meetings.
Over the years and when he was unwell Mark still gave his time freely to help the Club and others. He fought a long hard battle bravely and will be missed by all who knew him at Newlands.
Again our thoughts are with Pauline and all the family.
