Volunteers

As you may have read in Shirley’s update last week, a small but enthusiastic band of volunteers have been working away on the Club grounds to keep them up to the standard we all expect. One of the major jobs we have been working on over the last few weeks is the replacement of all the outside tennis court windbreaks. The team commit to meet each Tuesday and work for 4-5 hours on whatever is required.

In past years we have held a Club Tidy Up Day in April but due to Covid this has not been possible. Despite this, I am sure there are plenty of Club members who would like to help out and become more involved in the general tidying and maintenance of the Club. I know it is a lot to commit to working each Tuesday but there are plenty of smaller jobs that can be covered at a time that would suit the individual. Some of the things that come to mind are:

  • Picking up used tennis balls, discarded tins, refuse etc (I try to do this at least once a week but any support would be great. Plastic bags and gloves are available at reception).
  • Clearing litter from the car park.
  • Planting/donating plants and pots for display around the grounds.
  • Watering and maintenance of the above.
  • Small painting jobs i.e. the many fences that border the grounds
  • Brushing any debris from the outside tennis courts.
  • Clearing weeds from the paths and the edges of the tennis courts.
  • Tidying up the pink stones that border the paths.

This is just an example of some of the work that needs to be covered at our Club. Of course, we do use contractors for any major issues but the more we do ourselves then the more money that can be re-invested back into Newlands to keep improving the facility.

If you are available and have a few spare hours then just let me or reception know what you would be interested in helping with. Thank you.

Regards,

Richard M Pearson
