Squash Update - 22nd April 2021

Dear Newlands squash and racketball player,

I hope this finds you all well and staying fit and healthy. It has been a long wait but, at last, the relaxation of COVID restrictions should allow us to get back on court to some degree from Monday 26th April. Please note, at time of writing, this is subject to final approval from the government, Sports Scotland, and Scottish Squash.

The move to Level 3 means that we will be allowed:

Solo practice
Play with a member of the same household
Coaching (with social distancing measures in place)
Juniors – full play and group coaching

The above means that we can shortly resume the free squash and racketball coaching sessions which were available at the tail end of 2020. These are available to adult members who had a full membership last year.

If you wish to receive coaching, please email reception to register your interest.

The Saturday junior squash coaching will also resume. Please contact reception to register.

We would like to remind our members that with such a long hiatus from playing, care should be taken to avoid injuries when getting back to our beloved rebound sports.

In the longer term, the above permissions will be in play until we enter Level 0, at which point full play should be able to resume. Please see attached timetable for the easing of restrictions as drafted by Scottish Squash.

With regard to the squash hall refurb, this is still in progress. The hall has been painted, and new flooring installed. The seating is next on the list and we hope to have this in place soon. The refurb activity will be ongoing and the committee are working hard to make the hall a proud feature of the club.

Looking forward to seeing you all back on court!

All the best,

Newlands Squash Committee.
